Wig making tools
Reusables:
Bead Loom - this is what you'll be making the actual wefts on, you have to
be able to stretch the thread fairly taught and keep it that way.
Extra bolts and wing nuts - I find I have to replace them
every two or three wigs, at least on one end... that's a lot of tightening
and loosening and tension they're being put through
Needles - make sure they're fairly fine and sharp, a ball-point needle can
be useful too
Pins - only used to make the wig cap, so your choice by material
Scissors - your standard sewing scissors will do fine
Brush or comb - you can't weft tangled hair, a tail-comb can be quite useful
if you find you need to tuck an extra weft in at the end to fill a thin spot
Bobbie pins - used in the final assembly, makes it a lot easier to not tangle
the last wefts around each other
Consumables:
Hair - my top choice is Nylon doll hair (from DollyHair or Custom Pony), but I have tested and
Saran also works well, though it tangles quicker
notes: other doll hair types may also
work, but I haven't tested them. Basically you need one that takes
a crimp relatively well.
****Do Not Use Natural Hair Fibers In My Wefting Method... This Is Only For
Synthetics****
Thread - I use All Purpose or Dual-Duty cotton-poly blend thread, basically
it needs to be able to take fairly high tension
Fray-Check - not absolutely necessary, but I like the extra bit of security
Fabric - for the wig cap. I prefer knit fabric (aka t-shirt material)
myself, but any fairly thin and somewhat stretchy fabric should work
okay
Elastic - again for the wig cap, just need a thin band to provide some hold
(sorry, not pictured, use about the 1/4 inch flat)
Twist-ties - helps keep your excess hair untangled
